Best Buddies High Schools provides an opportunity for high school students to be matched in a one-to-one friendship with students who have intellectual disabilities. Social experiences and relationships are a part of life; unfortunately, individuals with intellectual disabilities have historically been excluded from many of the social opportunities that most young people enjoy. By becoming a high school peer buddy, the student will not only befriend someone with an intellectual disability, but the student will also learn about themselves in the process.

Best Buddies accomplishes its mission of friendship through a student-run Best Buddies chapter on the High School campus. Each chapter is a registered student organization within their school and is led by a Chapter President, Student Officers and a Faculty Advisor. The Chapter President is a student that is matched in a friendship and is willing to organize, lead and maintain a chartered chapter of Best Buddies Qatar for the duration of one academic year. The Faculty Advisor is a teacher within the school that is willing to serve as a mentor and leader for the Chapter President and Best Buddies chapter. And the Student Officer positions such as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Historian also assist the Chapter President with their responsibilities. The chapter communicates regularly with a staff member of Best Buddies Qatar.

The chapter has two types of members: a matched member and an associate member. The matched member commits to upholding the mission of Best Buddies by being matched in a one-to-one mutually enriching friendship. The associate member agrees to join the international movement to end social isolation for people with disabilities and commits to attending group activities, but is not matched in a friendship. By introducing Best Buddies to public and private high schools around Doha, we are crossing the invisible line that often separates those with disabilities from those without.

Best Buddies Qatar has chapters on the campuses of the following schools:

  • Al Bayan Educational Complex for Girls
  • Gulf English School
  • Omar Bin Khateb
  • Doha International College
  • Qatar Academy

Best Buddies Colleges provides an opportunity for college students to be matched in a one-to-one friendship with members of the community who have intellectual disabilities. Individuals with intellectual disabilities do not always have the opportunity to have friends outside of their own, often isolated, environment. By becoming a College Buddy, volunteers offer a Buddy the chance to explore life in a new way.

Best Buddies accomplishes its mission of friendship through a student-run Best Buddies chapter on the College campus. Each chapter is a registered student organization on their college campus and is led by a College Buddy Director. The College Buddy Director is a student matched in a one-to-one friendship that is willing to organize, lead and maintain a chartered chapter of Best Buddies Qatar for the duration of one academic year. The college chapter is assisted by a Faculty Advisor, students who have volunteered to be Officers & a staff member of Best Buddies Qatar.

Similar to the High School chapters, the College chapters have two types of members: a matched member and an associate member. The matched member commits to upholding the mission of Best Buddies by being matched in a one-to-one, mutually enriching friendship. The associate member agrees to join the international movement to end social isolation for people with disabilities and commits to attending group activities, but is not matched in a friendship. By introducing Best Buddies to universities throughout Doha, we are crossing the invisible line that often separates those with disabilities from those without.

Best Buddies Qatar has chapters on the campuses of the following schools:

  • Carnegie Melon University Qatar
  • Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar
  • Qatar University

Best Buddies Citizens pairs people with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one friendships with other individuals in the corporate and civic communities. Without love, support, and friends, our lives would be empty - a life people with intellectual disabilities have been forced to live throughout history. Volunteers are changing this by simply sharing their time with new friends.

e-Buddies® creates respective e-mail friendships between people with and without intellectual disabilities. Using the technology of e-mail, Best Buddies brings additional unconventional opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities through e-Buddies.
